Be part of our Revolution

What about?

This is one special chess club proud not to impose any entry fees to their honourable members unlike every other normal average club but of course a voluntary contribution would be appreciated.
In order to become one more member alongside our few existing ones you just need to pop in to our base located in Highbury and Islington at
La Piragua Restaurant and ask for the captain or rep of the team.
Best on Saturdays after 5 pm and simply ask to be considered not just as a simple guest but rather as another valuable member of our team.
It's completely free and easy to join after giving in your name and a contact number to our estimated captain "Hector" or rep "Polo".
In return we expect you to train with us from time to time which of course it is optional and participate in tournaments all the same where we are due to contest and do our best to enjoy the ups and downs of this humble but unique club amongst the rest in the London Chess League.

How did it happen?

Once upon a time one day there it was this nice young girl called “Sonia” from Ecuador who happened to like the game of chess and to talk over it so she and some other chess enthusiasts from the Latin Community most from the country of Colombia got together and decided first to form a club and then to come across with a relevant name so suited and appropriate that they called it “Capablanca”.
J R Capablanca was the greatest Chess Grand Master and Chess World Champion ever to live and to come from a Latin country therefore this name was undoubtedly chosen to identify this happy club that it is today.

Who are we?

We are just a humble club of chess proud as much of our own achievements as of our defects. In addition we are basically a small team of chess players mostly of a Latin origin who play this exciting game for fun within the London League Div 3 prior the uploading date of this Web Site.

Where are we?

We are just based on the Borough of Highbury and Islington.
To be more exact at restaurant La Piragua 176, Upper St, London, N1 1RG Tel: 020 7354 2843. The nearest tube and railways stations are Highbury & Islington and Angel in terms of proximity respectively.

When do we meet?

We usually come to the restaurant and play on Sundays every other week after 5 pm till 9.30 pm or until much later if there are no many customers.
If you or somebody else you know i.e. a friend, is also interested please feel free to come along and have some fun.
All levels are warmly WELCOME.
No restrictions whatsoever apply in principle i.e. sex, religion, colour, age, wealth, status, politics.
